The Hollies – Woodland walk

Place and memory
Site visit day #2

The Hollies is a dense secluded woodland located just outside Meanwood and Headingley. It is a magical, hidden, secret place that I never knew existed in the 20 years I have lived in Leeds.

I just love visiting and exploring new places, to see a place for the first time all my senses were alive, ready and tingling. Every turn and corner lead to something beautiful and unexpected. Every corner led to a a world of imagination. The sounds of the woods were exciting yet soothing; babbling brooks, rustling leaves, birds singing and waterfalls cascading. The smell was a sweet perfume of damp, clean and earthy scents. The canopy above the ancient gnarled trees dappled the light that filtered down in pools on the soiled floor below.

We moved through the woods on our journey from past to present.

For most, this was a day for new memories but for others a day for retelling the old.
