Asymmetrical Necklaces

I knew I wouldn’t be able to resist a necklace design using those peace stone carved leaf beads. I have finally satisfied my urge to use them so this will probably be the last of these leaf bead pieces for a while.

I have always liked the idea of making asymmetrical pieces, this stems right back to when I first started to make necklaces like the Mystical Forest Leaf, Mermaids Dream and the Star Lily so it seemed right to make this in a similar way.

I have done a little research into the Peace Stone as I had never heard of it before. It turns out these leaves are actually Peace Jasper. ‘Peace stone’ also known as Lepidolite is actually a purple colour. Apologies for any confusion but the shop just called them Peace Stone – which actually I really liked the sound of. The fact that they were leaves just made them totally irresistable to me!

This has both an asymmetrical element and symmetry to the design.

I don’t think there will ever come a time when I don’t naturally opt for asymmetry. I love the challenge of designing something that isn’t the same on both sides, I find it far more rewarding and gives you the freedom of your imagination all the way around the piece.
