All Wired Up Exhibition

The current exhibition at Walford Mills in Dorset includes a collection of my latest copper jewellery wire work.

All Wired Up is an exciting and challenging display of wirework by a selection of talented makers including Jan Truman, Celia Smith and local Dorset maker Helen Godfrey.

Wire is a notoriously difficult material to work with due to its inflexibility and strength. Through this exhibition the technical expertise and craft skills needed for the design and translation of ideas through wire is presented by a variety of different makers, each with their own individual approach to the medium.

Celia Smith, one of the makers featured in the exhibition, creates wire sculpture that is predominantly inspired by birds. Capturing their movement and character is her primary concern and Celia finds that the medium of wire provides her with a sense of spontaneity and energy that is so adept in bringing such a sculpture to life. Celia adds, ‘each sculpture is a three dimensional drawing with wires representing a quality of line.’

This exhibition hopes to illustrate the versatility of the makers featured with a vast display of wirework created specifically for the market-place, considering a variety of subjects, scales and sizes, all with their own distinctive, whimsical and quirky elements.
